Deep Comedy From Shallow Waters
If you could abandon it all to follow a dream, would you?
As seen on C4’s ‘Narrow Escapes’ Joel Sanders is the former Las Vegas comedian who swapped the hubbub of The City & Showbiz Glitz for a NICE CALM LIFE on the Waterways.
Now in its 12th year, Angry Boater explores the joys, perils & madness that come along when you swap the comforts of the suburbs for a nomadic life on a canal boat – a lifestyle Joel committed to in 2008 and which he still enjoys - and endures.
Formerly, Joel was the comedian with a grand plan of becoming the first Brit to play all 50 US States. He got as far as 40, performing everywhere from redneck bars across the Deep South to the Big City casinos & theatres, regularly sharing the stage with his comedy heroes, including Robin Williams.
C4’s ‘Narrow Escapes’ recently featured Joel in his floating homage to 1985’s ‘Live Aid’ concert. Famously, Phil Collins did 2 shows on the same day, 6000 miles apart, travelling by Concorde. Could Joel handle 2 shows in the same month, 60 miles apart, travelling by narrowboat?
In this year’s series, C4 returned to Joel as he made preparations for his biggest voyage ever - taking his narrowboat out to sea.
‘Angry Boater’ – appearing for the 6th time at Fishery Wharf Café as part of our 10 Year anniversary celebration week - is revelatory, authentic and very funny.
Whether you've ever thought about living on a boat or if you can't imagine anything worse, this showcase of 'Deep Comedy from Shallow Waters' is just the way you like it .... up the canal !
